Outfit of the Days, March 26 & 28

Hello everyone! I just wanted to post up my outfit of the days from this week. I though you guys might enjoy them.

Monday

Yay for climbing up trees! I didn't break anything so all was well.

Photo from ViVi October 2010

Monday I decided to wear an outfit inspired by one of the looks in a Japanese magazine my friend gave me. It is from 2010 but I think the look is still nice, especially since where I live, it is transitioning into spring and it is nice to have rolled up pants and shirts.
The top is from Forever 21, I got it two years ago, but you could probably find a very similar one like THIS or THIS. The black vest I got at H&M a few years ago also, but it is very easy to find a black vest. The olive green pants are actual Army pants I found at the thrift store. I got them for a few bucks and they are some of my favorite pants. I found these in the men's section, but they fit around my waist just fine and look really cute when the bottoms are rolled up. The black flats are from Payless.

Dork...

I found my jacket at a resale store but it is originally from Forever 21. It is a medium blue color and the sleeves are 1/2-3/4 depending on if they are rolled up or down. You can't see it very well, but the flower in my hair was from Claire's.

Wednesday

Today my focus was more on my makeup and my hair then my outfit. I knew I would be running around all day so I tried to keep my outfit simpler.

Curled hair for the win.

For my hair I used a straightening iron to curl it in different directions. My makeup was kept in a monochromatic purple scheme. I used NYX 10 Color Eyeshadow Palette, The Runway Collection 07 Versus. THIS is what it looks like if you are curious. Underneath that I have NYX Jumbo Pencil in Oyster. My mascara is Buxom Lash in Black. I'm testing it out. Possible review in the future. Other than that my blush is Clinique's iced lotus (I've had this forever and I still haven't hit pan!), and Burt's Bees chapstick.
Here's and outfit shot. Jacket from Forever 21 a year or two ago (I don't buy many new clothes). The top is a black and purple boat neck from Kohl's two years ago. My jeans are Levi's (got them at the thrift store though!) and shoes are purple Converse. Pink hair is awesome <3  My jacket in the shot below was from...a store...I'm sorry I really can't remember but I've had it for over 4 years. It is an olive green fitted jacket. I really like layering jackets like this because where I live I never know what the weather is going to do next and if I have two jackets it will keep me warmer and dryer (especially if one has a hood). The hood was the only thing that saved my hair from the crazy rain today.
Which outfit was your favorite?

Hunger Games Movie Review (in Comparison to the Book)

Yesterday, I went to go see the very popular Hunger Games movie. Before seeing the movies I had already read the entire trilogy, and am the kind of person that is very particular when it comes to accuracy from the book to the movie. I loved the book series and had some hope for the movie.

My pre-movie thoughts:

  •           I wasn't sure about Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss. The character Katniss was supposed to be very thin from lack of food, and Jennifer's face is a bit...chubby round.
  •           I was worried about Josh Hutcherson as Peeta...I think the last movie I saw him in was Bridge to Terabithia (one of my least favorite movies, ever).
  •           I was afraid the movie was going to be horribly inaccurate like many other book-turned-movies I had seen before (*cough cough* Twilight *cough*)

BUT, the movie was VERY GOOD! I was shocked at how well it was done. The movie followed very closely to the books! There was only a few details that were missed, but I found myself easily forgiving them which I almost never do. A couple minor characters were cut out of the movie, the ending did not end of as uncomfortably as the books, and the origins of the pin were some of the main (non revealing) differences I noticed. The ending of the movie was a bit faster than the books showed it, but it made sense considering the time constraints.

The special effects were very good and very believable. I really enjoyed the fact that I wasn't sitting there thinking to myself, Wow, look how fake that is. Really? They could have made that better! I loved how the movie portrayed the futuristic society the book was set in and how they blended parts of the past, present, and future into the movie. The book does a great time of this too, but there were things shown in the movie, I didn't even imagine myself (in a good way!).

The plot of the book was followed very closely in the movie. There were of course some slight differences, but the characters got from point A to B to C the same ways as in the book. Like the book, or even more possibly, the movie was very moving. I felt very strong emotions the entire movie, ranging from worry, to stress, to fear, to sadness, to relief. I actually felt like I was going to cry at one point...THIS IS HUGE! I NEVER EVER cry during movies, and this one had tears about to fall from my eyes. I was sitting next to my mother who was practically bawling (she's very emotional). I didn't even feel this strongly at this certain point in the movies, while reading the books (I did feel strongly about other things in the books though).

The acting...Pretty good. I thought it was pretty good...I thought the younger sister might have been able to do a little better, but generally it was very good. Yeah.

THE MAKEUP. Omigosh, the makeup was BRILLIANT!! Effie Trinket's makeup was amazing and crazy and out there and I loved it. I was even better because through the whole movie it kept changing, so I got to see about 5 different crazy makeup looks. It made me very happy. There was also crazy awesome makeup on the other people living at the Capitol. As I read the books I always imagined Effie as Deloris Umbridge from Harry Potter...anyone else?

For those who haven't read the books: The story is about teenagers killing other teenagers, the series is not a happy series, and there is a bit of romance going on, but not enough to make guys not want to read it. The books are amazing, please read them! If you haven't read the series the movie still makes sense and is a very good movie, especially if you are expecting it to not be Happy Fun Rainbow Time Movie.

If you are under the age of 13, I would suggest you wait to see it because the movie is very graphic and leaves a lot to the imagination. There is a lot of killing, which is pretty much the point of the books.

The movie gets a 9/10 on the Anna May movie scale, and a 8.5/10 on the accuracy scale. I hope you all go see it!

HappyHour Collab

So yesterday I went over to Aya’s house. Aya is a freaking weirdo. I can’t believe I fell for her dirty tricks again. She lured me into her house with the promise of icecream, birthday cake icecream to be exact, and never gave me any. She forced me to take many pictures of her after I HAD to do her hair and makeup, while I got many burns from her hair straightener. She is so cruel. She stole all my ice cream, and threatened to throw it against the wall. Then she threatened to stab me, because she said I was too pretty. She also threatened to punch me. I was really starting to get worried because I was getting tired and I didn’t know what she would do to me if I fell asleep first. Luckily, I stayed up later than she did and snuck out of her house without her realizing.

Just kidding, just kidding. In all actuality, we had a great day together doing hair and makeup, taking tons of pictures, eating out, and working on blogs together. Here is the link to Aya’s Version of the Day. We started out our day by getting Aya’s hair and makeup perfect. Then after deciding what she should wear, we took many vain and conceited pictures. Here are a few to make you guys jealous at our beauty (don’t worry, they were all photoshopped):

After doing that photoshoot, we headed over to Five Guys, a burger place, and ate our very plain hamburgers. When that task was finished we ran over to the stores nearby and rented The Three Musketeers and Thor, and loaded up on junk food including birthday cake icecream, popcorn, Mtn, Dew Code Red, and white cake. We don’t have boyfriends so we weren’t really concerned with gaining weight (even though both of us are planning on trying to get into shape soon). Well, it’s in the past now!

Yuuuuuummmmmmm!

Before watching (or not watching) our movies her mother made us delicious food involving lumpia, rice, and raspberries. It was soooooo good (especially because it was REAL FOOD! As in, not prepared by a college cafeteria). When all the amazing food had been consumed, Aya and I had a sexy trip to the hottub. Yeah, we put on the hottest swimsuits we owned and seduced all the boys as we went into her hottub.

After messing up my hair and makeup, we went back inside to work on our blogs. We didn’t really even watch the movies we rented and Aya fell asleep to The Three Musketeers, and I can’t really tell you whether it was good or not because I was focused on writing a blogpost.

What are you looking at?

At the end of the night in our PJs

Well, that was my day. Hope you enjoyed the post. Don't forget to check out Aya's blog: www.happyhourjapan.blogspot.com

New Blog and Introductions!

Nice to meet you all, my name is Anna May. I am currently living in the United States, as I have my entire life. Someday I wish to spend time in Japan, and am currently trying to learn Japanese (with the help of my awesome friend Aya).

Right now I have a YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/craftteenbeauty which is mainly used for Makeup tutorials. From the encouragement of my friend Aya, I have decided to try this blogging thing again (many miserable failures later). I tend to get lazy about posting things, even on YouTube, but I will try really hard to keep this blog up to date (and I’ll get Aya to yell at me if I start slacking).

In the future I plan on posting about many different topics, some including makeup reviews, book reviews, movie reviews, Anime/Manga reviews, random rants, personal stories, Japanese language progress, convention experiences, artwork, and general comments on life itself.

(I can't play the piano)
